Challenge:
The University of Belgrade’s Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMSI) faced a pivotal challenge in advancing the commercialisation of LIQUID3, a cutting-edge urban photo-bioreactor. Designed to clean air by using green technology to removing carbon dioxide while producing oxygen and biomass, this innovative technology also boasted practical ergonomic features and advertising potential. While its prototype gained significant attention, IMSI needed to ensure its intellectual property (IP) was fully protected and develop a comprehensive market strategy to create a successful spin-out company. This required assessments of IP strength and freedom to operate as well as assessments of potentially viable markets, customer opportunities, and sustainability certifications.
Oxford Oracle was selected to achieve the required outcomes.
The Oracle’s Solution:
The Oracle designed a tailored solution to address IMSI’s exacting requirements. First, an in-depth IP assessment was conducted, including prior art and freedom-to-operate searches. The Oracle identified key IPRs linked to LIQUID3, evaluated risks, and proposed a comprehensive IP strategy. Using global and proprietary IP databases, the team ensured thorough searches, providing actionable insights into IP ownership, protection options, and infringement risks.
Alongside the IPR assessment, the Oracle carried out a detailed market analysis to explore global opportunities for LIQUID3. Five high-potential markets were identified through segmentation and quantification of the total addressable, serviceable, and obtainable markets. The analysis also assessed customer needs, market trends, and regulatory landscapes.
Detailed customer personas were developed, incorporating behavioural patterns, preferences, and sustainability requirements. These personas were used to create ideal customer journey maps, highlighting touchpoints and engagement strategies for future deployment. This strategic framework was designed to optimise the LIQUID3 customer experience while addressing market-specific demands and sustainability objectives.
Consequential Impact:
The project had a transformative impact on IMSI and the LIQUID3 team. The robust IPR strategy provided clarity on ownership, safeguarded innovation, and reduced legal and operational risks, enabling confident commercialisation efforts. The detailed market analysis offered a roadmap for global expansion, uncovering untapped opportunities, pathways for market entry, and sustainability certifications critical to success. By defining customer personas and mapping ideal customer journeys, the Oracle empowered the LIQUID3 team to refine its approach to customer engagement, ensuring a seamless and impactful market introduction.
Through its strategic expertise, the Oracle enabled the LIQUID3 team to navigate complex challenges and maximise the commercial potential of its innovation, solidifying its position for long-term success in a competitive global market.
