Technology Transfer Office, Technical University in the Mediterranean/Eurasian Region

Technology Transfer Office, Technical University in the Mediterranean/Eurasian Region

Challenge

A leading technical university in the Mediterranean/Eurasian region engaged Oxford Oracle to support in assessing IP questionnaires of 15 selected inventions across a range of project development levels. Oxford Oracle have reviewed the IP questionnaires and in this report provide evaluations based on the information provided by the university.

The Oracle's Solution

Information for the evaluations was collected from publicly accessible databases and websites as well as online databases and market research subscriptions available to Oxford Oracle. The results from the evaluations were provided in summary form with detailed evaluations, conclusions and recommendation provided in addition. A workshop was held at the university, 25-26 June 2021, to provide the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) staff with the methodology and approaches used to assess the inventions presented in the report so that the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) staff were enabled with skills used to assess IP portfolios. Several meetings with research teams and Oxford Oracle were held, with the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) staff observing how the Oxford Oracle team discuss the findings for their projects and the typical questions asked. The university's Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is one of the leading Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) in the regional ecosystem with an extensive and varied portfolio of high technology patents. The university currently have 109 active inventions in their portfolio. Within these inventions there are 291 applications (203 of them are international) and 151 registrations (115 of them are international). In recent years the number of inventions in the portfolio has increased and about 20 % of them are at a mature stage. 16 projects have been selected by the university for Oxford Oracle to assess. The project included two phases - Phase 1: an assessment of 16 projects/innovations for their international commercial potential, these were evaluated based on a completed Invention Disclosure Form (a technology transfer foundation) and Phase 2 - a two-day workshop at the university to present findings and methodology of the evaluation. The workshop brought together the research conducted by Oxford Oracle to prioritise the IP assets of the university into high, medium and low priority.

Consequential Impact

Upskilling of the university Technology Transfer Office (TTO) team in assessment and prioritisation of selected projects from the IP pipeline.
