A National Physical Sciences and Technology Research Institute in Europe

Challenge
Oxford Oracle provided innovation management for a national physical sciences and technology research institute in Europe, looking to develop a knowledge exchange and commercialisation function. The centre was interested in how to build a fit-for-purpose technology transfer office, to support the exploitation of research outputs from the centre as a means to generate revenues and strengthen the centres position in the regional innovation ecosystem.
The Oracle's Solution
Oxford Oracle started by conducting a diagnostic of the existing Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) capabilities at the Centre. The output of this work led to the development of a new operational plan for the Office, complemented by systems and processes for the management of the Centres IP portfolio, Human Resources, and operations. In addition, Oxford Oracle developed protocols and templates to support spin-out creation and licensing activities. Finally, Oxford Oracle delivered several professional development courses to upskill the Centres personnel on innovation management as well as good practice in operating a highly productive Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation (KEC) office.
Consequential Impact
Ultimately Oxford Oracle developed a brand new operational and governance structure for the Centre, allowing it to better serve its stakeholders within the institution and other participants in the innovation ecosystem. Crucially, the Centre now has the ability to identify, evaluate and plot successful exploitation routes for a large portfolio of innovations.
