Challenge
Over a 12-month period, 01 April 2020 – 31 March 2021, Oxford Oracle built a strong partnership with a UK university, building capacity through provision of technology transfer support, strategic recommendations and creation of commercialisation processes.
The Oracle's Solution
A mixture of onsite and remote support was provided to a UK university to build and develop the research IP commercialisation pipeline. Oxford Oracle supported to a total of 36 projects and held onsite and remote meetings with over 25 academics. Commercialisation potential and next steps were identified for each project resulting in the completion of over 78 IP portfolio related activities ranging from invention disclosure meetings, IP due diligence and market assessments to spin-out and licensing activities such as business plan support and identification and engagement with potential licensees. Oxford Oracle's pitch support to three of the university's academics enabled them all to successfully obtain their start-up accelerator programme funding. In addition, to build the university's IP commercialisation capacity, new strategies and internal processes at the university were created.
Consequential Impact
A new process and framework for commercialisation was created at a UK university. Projects were identified and evaluated for their commercial potential and clear route-to-market plans with milestones and timelines developed. All work was completed to contractual standards. Client feedback: During the time that Oxford Oracle worked with a UK university, the colleagues concerned provided a high level of guidance to our academic community and as an institution we were able to move forward substantially on our IP exploitation journey. This included updated IP policy documentation, a new approach to commercialisation for societal impact and successful recruitment of permanent staff to continue this trajectory. It was a great pleasure to collaborate with Oxford Oracle, with the consultants concerned hard working, professional and collegiate. They maintained flexibility in their approach and through constructive dialogue we made significant progress as an institution. I highly recommend collaboration with Oxford Oracle.
