The project involved desk-based research and benchmarking to identify examples of successful innovation frameworks in some of the largest public and private sector organisations throughout the world, and the conduction of in-depth stakeholder interviews throughout major sites for each of the Armed Forces to examine current innovation activities with the defence ministry and how they could be brought together in a challenge-based approach to innovation. Two large stakeholder workshops were also conducted to test initial models proposed for the framework, and codify the optimum approach.
